Maria Villa-Muniz is an interior designer and founder with her architect husband Eduardo of successful architecture and design firm, Villa+Villa. Born in Argentina and based in Sydney’s beautiful Walsh Bay, Maria’s background in fine art and interior design allows her to contribute to the creation of truly captivating spaces (just check out this beauty, featured on Dustjacket). Maria relishes the variety involved in working across retail, commercial and domestic projects and her week in pictures is equally varied, taking her from a feature in the Latin interiors bible to an afternoon on Sydney Harbour.

Lunes // Spanish for Monday The first day of the week “should and must” start with a long black. A good dose of this nurturing bean is always good. Our office is located at Walsh Bay, a vibrant, thriving arts quarter and commercial hub beside the Harbour. Our building has the most beautiful exposed ceiling beams and heritage features. It used to be a large wool warehouse. Coming to work in this location is something we appreciate every day. Martes // New projects – New challenges I have the soul of a collector, always looking, forever searching. I hunt for wonderful finishes and pieces for our latest projects. I love dramatic and sophisticated use of colour in dark or light hues. Designing clean spaces with lots of natural light is always a dream. We are big fans of Porters Paints as their colour hues are quite unique. And talking about colours, we always look at Loom Rugs first as their patterns and designs are quite wonderful. We have recently moved homes. For me this is very exciting. I love renovating for us, my wonderful family of 3. At the moment we have a “Before” happening but can’t wait to show you the “After”! It’s like Snow White is fast sleep and is going to be woken up…seriously. This home will be very different from our previous one (see the tour on The Design Files). In this new place the light is quite incredible; it will be bright, light and airy. Jueves // Gather and Share Gathering new pieces, sharing our work with clients and the world, basically making beautiful spaces for people to live in. That is what we are all about! I’m currently sourcing and loving the most exquisite range of Latin American homewares inspired by our colonial heritage and made by talented artisans. Speaking of South America, last December Argentinian magazine Espacio Living came to do a dossier about Sydney. We were very lucky to be published in our Latin interiors Bible together with other Sydney creatives like  Megan Morton, Donna Hay, Sibella CourtKoskela and others. You are welcome to see all the wonderful pictures on this link but sadly it’s all in Spanish. Please translate, I hear you say! Viernes // Oh la la Once a month during the Summer season we invite our team to share a day at the Harbour. A nice time to come together outside the office environment. We anchor the boat at a peaceful beach and magically the day becomes a beach-bound Friday. Weekend // Our weekends are family time to chill out to the max, paint, entertain and share time with our dear friends. Ferry rides to the city make us feel like we have been on holidays. Always and forever I will call Australia home, even though my Argentinian accent is so intact that I still sound like I landed yesterday. I guess that’s why my life here feels like an eternal holiday. Sun, smile and forever happy. No other way.
